Gwyneth Paltrow enjoyed many high-profile relationships throughout the years, including romances with actors Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck, just to name a few. And interestingly enough, Paltrow credited these partnerships and others for giving her the emotional intelligence necessary to be in her first “adult” relationship ever, aka her marriage to Brad Falchuk.
“In the past, I’ve been in relationships with men who had intimacy issues, so I could be, like, ‘I’m fine, I’m ready to do this,’ and let myself think he’s the one with the problem,” she told the The Sunday Times. “In a way, some of the relationships were designed to keep me out of intimacy. Now, for the first time, I feel I’m in an adult relationship that is sometimes uncomfortable, because he sort of demands a certain level of intimacy and communication that I haven’t been held to before.”
Although we definitely understand where Paltrow is coming from (every past relationship is a lesson, right?) we can’t help but find it a bit odd that she perceives her relationship with Falchuk as her first mature partnership. We say this because the actress was married to Chris Martin for 10 years, during which they welcomed two children together. We don’t know about you guys, but we tend to characterize parenthood and marriage as adult activities.
That being said, we’ll chalk this incident up to a poor choice of words.
